When I’m a Big Sister…
It seems that every day Anya comes up with a new thing she’ll do when Baby Brother is born. Here’s the collection:
When Baby Brother is born…
- I’ll tickle him.
- I’ll lie down on the floor with him.
- I’ll burp him on the other shoulder (after Dada burps him on the other shoulder).
- I’ll put him on the couch and turn on baby movies for him.
- I’ll drive him to baby school.
- I don’t need to have playdates anymore (because she’ll play with the baby all of the time).
Other things that have come up…
- She calls herself a big sister now even thought the baby won’t be born until November.
- She’s very helpful when I mention my feet hurt, suggesting that she’ll give me a foot “bassage” and then actually doing it which is funny because my husband refuses to touch my frequently pedicured feet.
- She’s gotten mad at her friend Sophie who is an only child because Sophie said that she’s a big sister to her dolls. Anya says it’s not the same thing.
- In the past, when she gets mad, she’s said, “I’m not going to be your friend anymore” or “I’m not going to have playdates anymore” but lately that has changed to “I’m not going to be a big sister anymore.”
- She loves poking me in the belly button even though I howl in pain but now that my belly button is starting to pop out, she’s willing to gently caress it.
- She’s afraid of the dark. I’m not sure if this is a developmental thing or related to fear of the unknown of becoming a big sister.
